Description |

EXPERT Butyl Boost™ is a professional-grade stripper enhancer formulated with 100% pure butyl cellosolve to dramatically increase the power of EXPERT Wood Stripper when tackling stubborn water-based coatings.
While traditional strippers work well on oil-based finishes, many modern deck stains and solid-color coatings are water-based, acrylic, or latex formulas that resist removal. That’s where Butyl Boost™ makes the difference.
By adding Butyl Boost™ to your prepared EXPERT Wood Stripper mix, you increase penetration power and coating breakdown, allowing you to remove:
• Water-based deck stains
• Solid color stains
• Acrylic coatings
• Latex-based finishes
• Multi-layer applications
• Difficult commercial-grade coatings
Why Use Butyl Boost™?
✔ 100% pure professional concentrate, no fillers, no dilution
✔ Enhances stripping performance on water-based finishes
✔ Reduces repeated applications on stubborn coatings
✔ Ideal for heavy restoration and refinishing projects
✔ Designed to work within the EXPERT 3-Step Wood Restoration System
This product is recommended for experienced users handling demanding restoration work where standard stripper strength is not enough.
After stripping, always follow with EXPERT Wood Brightener & Neutralizer to restore proper wood pH and ensure optimal stain adhesion.
When the job demands more power, Butyl Boost™ delivers the professional edge.
Mixing & Application |
⚠️ Professional-Strength Product — Use Proper Safety Equipment
Always wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, and an approved respirator when handling Butyl Boost™.
Step 1: Mix with EXPERT Wood Stripper
Butyl Boost™ is designed to be added to a prepared EXPERT Wood Stripper solution.
Standard Enhancement Ratio:
• Add up to 10% Butyl Boost™ to your mixed wood stripper
• Example: ½ gallon Butyl Boost™ per 5 gallons of prepared stripper
For heavier water-based coatings, you may gradually increase concentration (do not exceed recommended limits).
Mix thoroughly before application.
Use the enhanced mixture within 6 hours for best results.
Step 2: Surface Preparation
• Lightly dampen wood to reduce excessive grain raise (do not oversaturate)
• Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first
• Protect surrounding surfaces
• Thoroughly wet plants and landscaping before and after use
Step 3: Application
• Apply using a pump sprayer or car wash brush
• Apply generously and evenly
• On vertical surfaces, apply bottom to top to prevent streaking
• Avoid direct sunlight during application
• Allow 10–30 minutes dwell time
• Keep the surface wet, mist lightly if drying occurs
Strippers must remain wet to remain active.
Agitate with a stiff bristle brush along the wood grain once coatings begin to lift.
Step 4: Rinse
• Rinse with a garden hose at high pressure or pressure washer (1500–2500 PSI)
• Rinse in the direction of the wood grain
• Repeat application on stubborn areas if necessary
Step 5: Neutralize (Mandatory)
Immediately apply EXPERT Wood Brightener & Neutralizer while the wood is still wet.
• Allow brightener to sit 5–15 minutes
• Rinse thoroughly (10–15 minutes)
• Ensure all residue is removed
Failure to neutralize can result in poor stain adhesion.
Dry Time Before Staining
Allow wood to dry completely before staining.
Recommended moisture content: Below 12%
Dry time typically: 24–48 hours, depending on weather
Important Storage & Handling Notes
• Do not mix with other chemicals
• Do not store in aluminum containers
• Store in a temperature-controlled area away from heat sources
• Keep out of reach of children
FAQs – EXPERT Butyl Boost™ |
What is Butyl Boost™ used for?
Butyl Boost™ is a professional stripper enhancer added to EXPERT Wood Stripper to increase its ability to remove stubborn water-based stains, acrylic coatings, latex finishes, and heavily built-up deck coatings.
It is designed for restoration projects where standard stripper strength is not enough.
Does Butyl Boost™ remove oil-based stain?
Oil-based stains typically remove with EXPERT Wood Stripper alone.
Butyl Boost™ is primarily used for water-based, acrylic, and latex coatings that resist normal stripping solutions.
What brands does this help remove?
Butyl Boost™ is effective for breaking down difficult water-based coatings, including many solid color and acrylic stains, such as:
• Behr®
• Olympic®
• Superdeck®
• Acrylic solid stains
• Latex deck paints
Always test a small area first.
How much Butyl Boost™ do I add?
Standard mix ratio:
• Add up to 10% Butyl Boost™ to your prepared Wood Stripper solution
• Example: ½ gallon of Butyl Boost™ per 5 gallons of mixed stripper
Do not exceed recommended ratios. Always mix thoroughly.
Can I use Butyl Boost™ by itself?
No.
Butyl Boost™ is not a standalone stripper. It must be added to a prepared EXPERT Wood Stripper solution to work properly.
Is this product safe for cedar and pressure-treated wood?
Yes, when used as directed with proper safety precautions. It is formulated for exterior wood surfaces, including cedar and pressure-treated lumber.
Always follow with Wood Brightener & Neutralizer after stripping.
Do I have to neutralize after using Butyl Boost™?
Yes. Neutralization is mandatory.
After stripping, apply EXPERT Wood Brightener & Neutralizer to restore proper pH balance and ensure proper stain adhesion.
Skipping this step can cause stain failure.
How long should it dwell?
Typically, 10–30 minutes depending on coating thickness and weather conditions.
The surface must remain wet during dwell time. If it dries, it stops working.
Is Butyl Boost™ dangerous?
It is a professional-strength chemical enhancement.
Always wear:
• Chemical-resistant gloves
• Eye protection
• Respirator
• Protective clothing
Keep away from children and pets.
When should I use Butyl Boost™ instead of a stronger stripper mix?
Use Butyl Boost™ when:

• Standard stripper alone is not effective
For oil-based stain removal only, a booster may not be necessary.
