Application Tips
-
Prepare the Surface: Clean thoroughly using a wood-safe cleaner to remove dust, mildew, or debris. For best results, follow with a wood brightener to open the grain and neutralize pH.
-
Test for Absorption: Sprinkle water on the surface. If it beads up, the wood isn’t ready. Clean or sand before staining.
-
Stir Well: Mix stain thoroughly before and during application to maintain consistent color and performance.
-
Apply Generously and Evenly: Use a brush, roller, or sprayer and work the stain into the wood. Back-brush while still wet to ensure uniform penetration and reduce blotching.
-
Wipe Excess on Horizontal Surfaces: On decks, caps, or railings, always wipe off excess stain to reduce drying time and prevent tackiness or footprint transfer.
-
Rough = Better: Transparent stains penetrate best on slightly rough wood. Sanding to 40 grit is ideal; do not exceed 80 grit. Smooth wood makes it harder for oils to absorb deeply.
